On March 25, 2014, the second expert meeting of AMuSE took place at the University of Tartu. The meeting was devoted to the topic of multilingualism in teacher education with the aim of comparing the current situation in Estonia with the diverse partner countries of the AMuSE project. The meeting started off with a keynote lecture given by a representative of the Estonian Ministry of Education, who focused on the situation of multilingualism at schools and in teacher education in the country. This was followed by several presentations of research carried out at the University of Tartu, all of which highlighted different aspects of how teachers in Estonian pre- and primary schools deal with multilingualism. Insight into initiatives that promote bilingual and immersion schools in Estonia as well as a snapshot of active multilingualism at the International School of Tartu concluded the morning programme. In the afternoon, the participants split into six discussion groups representing the different partner countries of AMuSE. Each of these groups presented and discussed the various ways in which multilingualism is represented in teacher education in their specific national contexts. The results of the presentations and discussions were gathered in a SWOT analysis and, afterwards, discussed together with all participants at the meeting. An overview of the presentations and discussions held during the 2nd expert meeting AMuSE will soon be available as an e-portfolio among the publications on the AMuSE website.
