Database Multilingualism available online

Recently, a database on “multilingualism and support of language competence” has been made available to all people interested in issues on multilingual education.

The database was conceived by our AMuSE partners at the Zurich University of Teacher Education and is run on their institutional server. The collection comprises short descriptions (including comments, links, etc.) of “Good-Practice” initiatives, projects, and publications on the use and implementation of multilingualism and pluriculturalism in current school environments as well as on measures of promoting language competence of multilingual children and youth in their language of origin and in the language of education. The current collection of 130 entries was gathered by many of the AMuSE partners, and they mainly relate to projects, ideas, initiatives, publications, and didactic materials present in the partner countries. In addition, they can also serve as examples for similar regional situations and needs. The database is an open resource for all people who are interested in multilingual education, and, as such, the collection of entries can be expanded not only by the project team of AMuSE but also by everyone who wishes to do so. It is hoped for that the database will become widely linked to other initiatives of multilingual education and will be available to a large number of users. You can access the searchable database here: http://ipe.phzh.ch/amuse

If you have any questions on how to create entries for the database or want to make comments, you are welcome to contact the editor Prof. Basil Schader (basil.schader@phzh.ch).
